Current Projects
Workforce and Community Partnership Cluster
- Communities and Schools for Success (CS²)
CS² increases the capacity of schools to meet the needs of all students. It does this through a skilled
team of "school-community entrepreneurs," senior level staff who work in each participating community to develop new programs and strategies that engage students
and improve their school performance. CS² entrepreneurs also expand resources for the schools through grants and the creative leveraging of funds, and they mobilize
community engagement and support for the schools.
- WIA Youth
CYDE coordinates the youth components of the federal Workforce Investment Act (WIA) in Massachusetts,
providing technical and policy support to workforce investment boards and youth councils to build stronger service networks for high-risk youth.
- Pathways to Success by 21 (P-21)
P-21 seeks to dramatically improve the future prospects for vulnerable youth across the Commonwealth —
those aged 16-24, who are out-of-school, without diplomas, unemployed, or without the necessary skills to access good careers and to become productive citizens. P-21 is
designed to increase the number of vulnerable young people succeeding in high school, postsecondary education and training, and the labor market; decrease disparities along key i
ndicators for racial minorities, low income, foster and court involved youth; and re-align state and local resources and programs to more effectively serve youth.
Education Cluster
- Diploma Plus®
Diploma Plus is a competency-based route to a high school diploma for young people who have left school
or are not succeeding in traditional high schools. Diploma Plus challenges students to meet high performance standards while providing support and guidance along the way.
The program includes a transitional senior-year experience that involves students in community service, work internships, and for-credit courses on a college campus.
CYDE's Diploma Plus Program is part of the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation's Alternative High School Initiative.
- DYS Educational Services
As the "lead educational entity" for the Massachusetts Department of Youth Services (DYS), CYDE
delivers educational services for juvenile offenders in DYS custody. CYDE provides training and technical assistance to education providers and coordinates educational and training
services for young people when they return to their home communities.
- Another Route to College (ARC)
ARC is an early college high school program that serves as an alternative senior year for high school students
who have not succeeded on required statewide tests. ARC exposes students to college-level work and career opportunities while at the same time giving them the support they need
to pass the tests. ARC students stay engaged in their education and focused on their future rather than dropping out.
- Literacy Works
Building on the entrepreneurial model of CS2, Literacy Works helps meet the need for literacy instruction in
communities with growing numbers of immigrants and educationally disadvantaged young people and adults. Each participating community uses a team of "literacy
entrepreneurs" to mobilize community support and build capacity and resources at the local level to strengthen and expand literacy efforts.
