Leaping for Solutions
Students in Illinois were asked by students in Minnesota to become involved with the issue of the possibilty of deformities and declining populations of frogs in Illinois. They were asked to take a proactive stand on this environmental concern by exploring the following questions:
- Could this happen in your area?
- What are the possible causes of deformities?
- How could we prevent it from occurring in Illinois?
- Why should you care about this issue?
- What are the possible implications for humans?
- What would you do if you found deformed frogs in Illinois?
- Who else might have an interest in this problem?
Teens in space
Students were challenged to consider the risks and benefits of adolescent space travel. They were asked to investigate the effects of space travel on adolescents from ethical, physiological, civic (political), and psychological viewpoints. They were challenged to provide convincing support for whether or not adolescents should go into space. The overarching questions were:
- What reliable evidence exists regarding adolescents that can be applied to space travel?
- Can data collected on adults be applied to adolescents?
