Commonwealth Partnership for Economic Opportunity (CPEO)

The Commonwealth Partnership for Economic Opportunity (CPEO) works to address Massachusetts’ critical need to build the capacity of a range of organizations (community, faith-based and state agencies) to coordinate workforce development programs and support services so that low-income adults and youth who are not engaged in school or work will have access to the tools and resources they need to enable them to compete for jobs in our knowledge-based economy.

The CPEO capacity-building program has three major components:

  • To provide group training and resources to connect community- and faith-based organizations with the public workforce development system and with information on American Reinvestment  and Recovery Act (ARRA) funded benefits.
  • To provide focused technical assistance to some participating organizations on topics they identify as essential to their success; and
  • To collaborate on the development of a sustainable capacity-building plan to perpetuate the learning and service gains of the CPEO project.

The Commonwealth Partnership for Economic Opportunity (CPEO) is a joint effort of Commonwealth Corporation and the Commonwealth Workforce Coalition (a project of the Community Economic Development Assistance Corporation overseen by the Executive Office of Housing & Economic Development). Group and customized technical assistance is funded by the Strengthening Communities Fund from the US Dept of Health and Human Services. Services will be offered at no cost to participants. Organizations are eligible to participate without regard to the secular or faith-based nature of their organization. If an organization is faith-based, it must take steps to separate, in time or location, the inherently religious activities, from the programs or services whose capacity will be built through the technical assistance activities provided through this grant.
