Program
CS² engages key school and community partners to help students be successful in school and earn a diploma, while building a future full of prospects for advancement. CommCorp provides technical assistance for partnership building and planning, as well as meeting facilitation and advocacy to schools and their community stakeholders all over Massachusetts.
Need
Schools require active partnerships with community organizations, employers, families, government, and higher education to bring to life the link between learning and work for youth. For education to succeed and help young people prepare for their future, it must address their hopes and fears, and engage them in a conversation about their needs and passions.
Solution
CS² provides a team of school-community liaisons to build and strengthen local partnerships. It deploys a team of change agents, known as “school community entrepreneurs,” to organize, facilitate, and support important school reform initiatives that serve at-risk youth. New funds are raised to leverage additional resources to address identified school and community needs.
Impact
CS² projects add significant local capacity to state initiatives for little cost. Academic enrichment activities and internships boost students’ enthusiasm for learning. Students who work with CS² experience higher motivation to succeed, increased career-related knowledge and skills, strengthened life skills, and improved test scores.
